Walking Programme - Saturday 15th June 2024

Programme & Schedule

8:00 AM - Registration and welcome coffee
Meet at the Visitor Centre car park. Collect your route maps and safety information.

9:00 AM - Group briefing
Safety briefing, weather conditions, and route options. Group leaders will be assigned.

9:30 AM - Walk departures
Three different routes available:

  • Blue Route - 8km circular (3 hours)
  • Red Route - 12km linear (4 hours)
  • Black Route - 18km challenge (6 hours)

1:00 PM - Lunch stop
Packed lunches available or bring your own. Hot drinks provided.

4:00 PM - Return and refreshments
All groups reconvene for tea and homemade cakes.

Route Information

Blue Route - Waterfall Trail
A gentle introduction to the area following well-maintained paths to three spectacular waterfalls. Suitable for families and beginners. Some steep steps near the falls but alternative viewpoints available.

Navigation: Clear waymarked paths throughout. Map provided but basic navigation skills helpful for confidence.

Red Route - Ridge Walk
Moderate difficulty taking in panoramic views from the main ridge. Some steep ascents but rewarding views. Good level of fitness required.

Navigation: Clear paths for most of route. Some compass work required in poor visibility. GPS coordinates provided for key waypoints.

Black Route - Summit Challenge
For experienced walkers. Includes the highest peak in the range with dramatic views. Significant ascent and descent. Very good fitness essential.

Navigation: Requires confident navigation skills. Map and compass essential. GPS device recommended as backup.

Essential Information

What to Bring:

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Walking boots with good grip
  • Warm layers (fleece or woolly hat)
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Water bottle (minimum 1 litre)
  • Map and compass
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle and head torch

Weather Contingency:
Alternative indoor venue at the Community Centre if severe weather. Check website on morning of event or call the weather line.
